Personal short-term insurance

Personal short-term cover is there for the car, the building, the contents and, where you ask for it, specified belongings. We help you set the insured amounts and understand the excess before a loss, not during one.

The sum insured is the conversation

Cars are often insured for retail value, market value or a specified amount. Houses should usually be insured for the cost of rebuilding, which is not the same as the price you paid or the municipal value. Contents are what it would cost to replace your household, not what it cost ten years ago.

We will ask awkward questions about alarm conditions and tracking devices. If the policy requires them, a claim can fail when they were off. Better to know that while you are choosing the cover.

What we line up for a household

You do not have to insure every section with the same urgency. Tell us what you could not replace from savings. That is usually where we start.

  • Vehicles, including who drives them and what they are used for
  • Home buildings, for the cost of rebuilding
  • Home contents, room by room if the total is unclear
  • All-risk cover for items that leave the house, with specified values where it matters
  • Personal liability, and what it does not include

Questions we hear

What is an excess?

The excess is the part of a claim you pay. A lower premium often comes with a higher excess. We will show you both, because the premium is not the only cost of a claim.

Does home insurance cover the full selling price of my house?

Buildings cover is normally based on the cost to rebuild, not the market price, which includes the land. Insuring for the selling price can mean you are paying for cover you cannot claim. We help you sense-check the rebuild figure.

Will a cheaper premium always cost me less?

Not if the excess is higher, the sum insured is thin, or a condition makes a claim harder. We compare the contract, not only the monthly debit.
