Life cover
Life cover for the people who depend on you
Life cover pays a lump sum if you die while the policy is in force. Families use it to settle a bond, replace an income for a time, or leave something for children. The right amount is the amount that does that job, not a number from a advert.
Start with the job, not the premium
Before we ask an insurer for a quote, we ask what would need to be paid if you died: the bond, school fees, a salary that would stop, a business loan. Cover that is too small misses the point. Cover that is far beyond the need costs more every month for as long as you keep it.
Premiums depend on your age, health, whether you smoke, your occupation and the benefits you add. We will not put a price on this page. Two people the same age can be offered very different premiums, and both offers can be fair.
Life cover is not disability cover
A life policy pays on death. Disability, severe illness and income protection are different benefits, with their own definitions and waiting rules. A policy can include more than one of them. The names on the quote matter, and we will read them with you.
Employer group cover is often a useful start and often not the whole answer. It may end when the job ends. Bring the latest schedule if you have one.
- Who the money is for, and how long they would need it
- Debts that should be settled
- Cover you already have, at work or on an existing policy
- Exclusions, waiting periods and what happens if you miss a premium

Questions we hear
How much life cover do I need?
Enough to do a specific job: settle debts, and replace income for the people who rely on it, for an agreed number of years. There is no single multiple of salary that fits every family. We work it out from your numbers, not from a slogan.
Does life cover include disability?
Only if the policy says so. Disability and severe illness benefits have their own wording. Ask to see which events are covered and which are not. We will not treat them as the same thing.
Should I choose life cover by the premium alone?
No. Price matters, and so do the definitions, the exclusions and whether the cover can continue if your health changes. A lower premium that does not do the job is not a saving.
