Insurance for the film industry

NCJ is the preferred broker for KEU. Productions move quickly, and the cover has to keep up with the equipment, the vehicles, the locations and the people on set. If you are a KEU member, or you are planning a shoot in South Africa, start here.

Preferred broker for KEU

KEU members can come to us for the insurance conversation around their work. Membership does not, by itself, put a policy in force. Cover starts when an insurer has accepted it and you have the schedule. Until then, assume you are not covered.

You can read more about KEU at keu.co.za. We will not invent benefits that KEU has not published, and we will not treat this page as a policy wording.

What productions usually ask about

A shoot is a stack of risks that do not fit a household policy. We usually talk through:

  • Cameras, lighting and other equipment, owned or hired
  • Vehicles used for the production
  • Public liability at locations
  • The people on set, and which cover is employment-related rather than insurance
  • The dates of the shoot, because a policy that starts late does not help

Bring the call sheet, not a perfect proposal

If you have a schedule, a kit list and a note of hired equipment, that is enough to start. Tell us about drones, stunts, water, aircraft or anything else that an ordinary shoot would not include. Those details change what an insurer will offer.

We work from Johannesburg and with productions across South Africa.

General information only. This page is not personal advice and it is not an offer. Product rules, tax and your own circumstances decide what is suitable. Read the official documents before you decide.

Questions we hear

How does NCJ work with KEU?

NCJ is the preferred broker for KEU members. You can contact us directly about cover for your work. KEU membership is not itself an insurance policy. The insurer’s wording and schedule decide what is covered.

What cover do productions often ask about?

Equipment, hired kit, production vehicles, public liability and the dates of the shoot. Special activities need to be disclosed. If it is not on the schedule, do not assume it is covered.

Do I have to be a KEU member?

No. KEU members are who the preferred-broker arrangement is for, and we also speak to other production companies and crew. Tell us what the shoot involves and we will say whether we can help.
